Garage Sale Skills

Did you know you can adopt a certain strategy to increase your profits at a garage sale? The best solution is something that most people should do in the first place is prepare yourself in advance. In other words don’t wait until the day before your sale to think of the stuff you want to get rid of.

Of course the bigger your yard sale or garage sale is, the more time you need to prepare in order for it to work. If it is a huge sale you might consider being more than one doing the selling. Here are pointers that have known to work well in the past so that you get even more money.

1. Remember that if you do a general garage sale that people from all ages will come to snoop around your junk so get rid of various things that you don’t need. If you sell kids stuff well you might not go far. Take a good look at what you could sell. Who knows, your old washer collecting dust may be worth a lot to someone who just so happens to be looking for one of these for years.

2. Make sure you are not selling too high. People who are seasoned garage sale snoopers know if prices are too high. For example if your sofa’s asking price is 30$ more than the store well there a fat chance that you will sell it. If you realize that the customer’s eyes pop out when you tell them the price, reduce your asking price otherwise, you’ll be stuck with your appliance for another year.

3. If you know where your odd looking lamp came from, where you got it, where it’s coming from, you might have a better chance of a sale because antique buyers just love that stuff.

4.If it is junk that you are selling and you really, really want to get rid of your stuff don’t worry to lower your price even more if a customer asks you if you will only take so much. As the saying goes, someone’s junk is another one’s treasure. Your price should always be less than in the stores.

5. Giving your clients a little more than they paid for is always appreciated like a little gift. You got rid of your old unwanted stuff and they leave with more than they bargained for in the first place.

6. Don’t hide the objects you want to sell. The whole point of a garage sale is to sell your stuff. Don’t put a table lamp in front of your transformer they’ll never see the robot. Just use logic and think of how you like it when you go to a garage sale and where you can find what you want in a flash.

7. Advertise your garage sale. Call some friends or print a couple of sheets and post them here and there. Plus on the day of the sale take flashy cardboard and say to the world that your junk is for sale.

Finally, a last thing to remember is that the client is always right. Plus the friendlier, the better you have a chance to making a sale. Remember in garage sale word to mouth helps a lot and the better the reviews, the better chance for you.
